Barcelona protesters tell tourists to go home

Gaudí’s Park Güell was the latest Barcelona attraction for anti-tourist activists to vent their anger
Visitors to Park Güell have probably found the graffitied message at its entrance less than welcoming: “Why call it tourist season if we can’t shoot them?”

If the meaning was in any doubt, the daubing included a shaded figure with a cross wire pointed at its head.

At the park designed by Antoni Gaudí, one of Barcelona’s most popular attractions, another graffitied message read: “Tourismus Macht Frei. Stop Destroying Our Lives!”

The spelling might have been slightly confused but the message at Park Güell was not: visitors to Spain’s second city are increasingly being targeted by radical activists amid a rising tide of “turismophobia” — or anti-tourist anger.

Residents are angry about the drunken antics of some foreign visitors

Last week about 300 members of a group called Poblenou Stand Up protested outside two new hotels…
